Expanding What's Possible: New Plate Roller & Growing Line Coming to TransTech Fabrication

Written by Admin | Jun 24, 2026 6:38:55 PM

We're making strategic investments in our fabrication shop, upgrading key equipment to increase capacity, improve first-pass quality, and strengthen the throughput that serves our customers across Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Chemical, and Industrial sectors.

What's Being Installed at TransTech Fabrication

At TransTech Fabrication, continuous improvement is more than a philosophy, it’s a standing investment. In 2025, we made two significant additions to our fabrication shop: a new heavy-duty plate roller and an upgraded Growing Line. Both pieces of equipment target the front end of our fabrication process, where quality, precision, and efficiency set the foundation for every vessel, tank, and heat exchanger we build.

These upgrades reflect our commitment to delivering the highest standard of ASME-certified pressure vessels, heat exchangers, columns, towers, and storage tanks, and to building a shop capable of handling growing customer demand without compromising on quality.

New Plate Roller

Heavy-duty plate forming for high-capacity, heavy-wall vessel components, fabricated in-house. Rolling capacity up to 4" thick plate

New Growing Line

Precision joint preparation and consistency at the very start of the fabrication process. Higher First-Pass Yield (FPY) and increased throughput

New Plate Roller: Expanding Heavy-Wall Fabrication Capacity

Our new plate roller brings a substantial increase in rolling capability to our shop floor. With the capacity to roll plate up to 4 inches thick, TransTech Fabrication can now take on a broader range of heavy-wall vessel and shell fabrication work, right here, in our own facility, without outsourcing or sub-contracting this critical step.

Why Plate Thickness Capacity Matters

In pressure vessel and process equipment fabrication, rolling capacity directly determines what you can build. Heavy-wall pressure vessels, common in high-pressure applications across Oil & Gas processing, Petrochemical refining, and Chemical manufacturing — require the ability to form thick plate to precise cylindrical tolerances.

With our new roller, that step stays in-house. That means tighter control over tolerances, faster cycle times through the shop, and one fewer external dependency in your project schedule.

What This Enables for Our Fabrication Program

  • In-house rolling of thick-wall shells for large-diameter ASME pressure vessels
  • Greater capability for heavy-wall reactors, columns, and towers
  • Reduced dependency on external rolling vendors, keeping quality control in-house
  • Faster shop cycle times from plate to formed shell
  • Expanded capacity for multi-project simultaneous execution

New Growing Line: Quality at the Source

The Growing Line is one of the most important, and often under appreciated, stages in fabrication. It’s where raw plate is prepared for downstream processes: joint edges are formed, weld preparations are cut, and the dimensional accuracy that will carry through every subsequent step is established. Get it right here, and quality follows.

Our new Growing Line represents a step-change improvement in this critical work center. The result is improved first-pass yield (FPY), a cleaner, safer working environment, and meaningful gains in shop efficiency and throughput.

Key Improvements from the New Growing Line

  • Higher First-Pass Yield (FPY): More consistent joingt preparation means fewer rejections, less rework, and better weld quality from the start

  • Improved Safety: Modern equipment with updated safety systems reduces operator risk in this workcenter

  • Increased Efficiency: Faster cycle times through the Growing Line reduce queue time and improve overall shop throughput

  • Better Quality at the Source: Precision at this stage cascades forward, improving dimensional accuracy across the entire vessel build
  • Reduced Rework and Waste: Consistent groove geometry means less correction downstream, reducing material waste and non-productive labor

Quality Built from the First Cut

In fabrication, quality problems rarely originate at the end of the process, they originate at the beginning. Our investment in the Growing Line is an investment in building quality into every vessel, tank, and exchanger from the very first step, so it doesn't have to be inspected or corrected out later.

How These Upgrades Improve Our Fabrication Capabilities

Taken together, the new plate roller and Growing Line represent a coordinated investment in the front end of our fabrication process. This is intentional. Process improvement doesn’t work when it’s applied in isolation, it needs to flow through the shop as a system. These upgrades are the first stage in a broader continuous improvement initiative across our facility.

Increased Throughput

By improving efficiency in the Growing Line work center and eliminating the need to outsource heavy-plate rolling, our shop can move more work through the front end of the process faster, releasing downstream work centers to run at higher utilization without starving for material.

Improved First-Pass Yield

FPY is one of the most important metrics in fabrication quality management. Every time a part fails inspection and requires rework, you lose time, material, and labor that was already invested. Our new Growing Line directly targets this metric, ensuring that joints, weld preps, and plate dimensions are correct the first time, every time.

Enhanced Safety Standards

Modern equipment is safer equipment. Our new Growing Line incorporates updated safety systems and ergonomic improvements that reduce risk for our operators, consistent with our Goal Zero safety commitment across all TransTech operations.

Broader Scope Capability

The combination of 4-inch plate rolling capacity and a higher-precision Growing Line means TransTech can confidently bid and build a broader range of heavy-wall, large-diameter, and high-complexity fabrication projects, without routing critical steps outside our facility.

What This Means for TransTech Fabrication Customers

We build custom ASME pressure vessels, shell & tube heat exchangers, reactors, distillation columns, API storage tanks, and process piping modules for some of the most demanding applications in the industrial world. Our customers count on us to deliver equipment that performs, on a schedule they can depend on.

These shop upgrades are an investment in our ability to do exactly that, at greater scale, with higher quality, and with more capacity to take on complex work.

Greater Capacity to Say Yes

With increased throughput in our shop and expanded rolling capability, TransTech can take on more projects simultaneously, including multi-track, high-complexity orders that require heavy-wall fabrication alongside standard vessels.

Higher Quality Equipment

Improved FPY means more consistent equipment quality. When joints are prepared correctly from the start, weld quality improves, dimensional tolerances are held more tightly, and the finished vessel performs to spec the first time it’s inspected.

More Equipment, Built for You

Ultimately, this is about capacity, the ability to build more equipment, for more customers, without compromising the craftsmanship that defines every vessel that leaves our facility.

  • Greater fabrication throughput, more equipment built per month

  • Expanded scope capability, including heavier-wall and larger diameter work

  • Improved quality consistency across all vessel types and specifications

  • More responsive project scheduling for complex, multi-item orders

  • Continued ASME, TEMA, API, and NBIC certified quality, now built on a stronger foundation.
